Needless to say, teaching is both a science and an art. It goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge through leading students in creating their content and inspiring one’s soul for lifelong learning. As such, it delves into approaches that help students develop skills that meet the demands of time. These approaches to teaching and learning were the focus of the 5th IB Meeting of DYISH. Taking the lead in the discussion, Miss Daphne employed a couple of activities for the participants to reflect on their teaching methods vis-a-vis the needs of the students in the IB context. She had the participants specify their methods and techniques in going about a certain set of skills. In so doing, they worked in groups to brainstorm and then went on to look into at least two skills. Next up, they analyzed their responses if those encompass all the indicators under a certain approach or skill set provided for by IB. This enabled them to see what other areas they might have to consider improving on to fulfill the IB curriculum standards in their respective courses.
